1-click consultation of driving licenses for transport companies

The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has launched an online consultation system that allows companies and self-employed workers in the transport sector to verify whether their drivers have a valid driving license and whether or not they have lost points. This service, contemplated in Law 18/2021, has taken more than two years to be completed.

The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has launched a system of online consultation that allows companies and self-employed workers in the transport sector to verify whether their drivers have a valid driving licence and whether or not they have lost points. This service, contemplated in the Law 18/2021, has taken more than two years to be activated due to the technical complexity of integrating the databases of the DGT, Social Security and the Ministry of Transport.

The transport of goods and passengers is a strategic sector that requires a high level of security and is constantly evolving, adapting to new technologies and regulations. With this tool, companies can quickly check whether their drivers are legally authorised without having to ask for authorisation. This avoids sanctions, transforms the way companies manage their fleets and, above all, reduces risks on the road. Thanks to this measure, control is reinforced and compliance with regulations is promoted, guaranteeing that only authorised professionals can carry out their activity.

How does the consultation work?

This system is available exclusively for registered transport companies and their legal representatives or authorised persons. It can only be used for employees registered with Social Security under the category of professional driver (E or F).

The process is completely digital., accessible by digital certificate, electronic DNI or Cl@ve. Once inside, with the driver's NIF or NIE to consult, the system will indicate whether your license is valid or not, and if you have lost points. If the status of professional driver cannot be verified, it will be necessary to contact Social Security to check your situation and correct possible administrative errors.

Transporting goods and passengers requires a high level of security

If the system returns an error message indicating that the requirements for the query are not met, it could be due to several reasons:

  • That the person attempting to make the inquiry is not a responsible person or representative of a transport company.

  • That the company was not registered as a transport operator.

  • That the driver was not listed as an employee of the company.

If the problem is related to the worker's classification, it is recommended that you contact Social Security to verify their professional category and proceed to regularize their situation if necessary.

The new service represents a major step forward for the transport sector, facilitating the management of permits and strengthening road safety.

This procedure is free of charge and is available through the DGT website.
